Napper Architects Short Listed.

Napper Architects have been shortlisted in a national design competition for the energy efficient retrofit of Shakespeare Street in Sunderland. The announcement was made by RIBA President Ruth Reed at the British Homes Awards on July 1st. The competition is seeking the most innovative remodelling of an existing housing block that addresses key environmental issues. The shortlist will be published in the Daily Telegraph allowing readers to vote for the winning design. It is the intention of the Gentoo Group to work with the successful architect following announcement of the winner at the Stirling Prize in October.

 

NapperArchitects worked with planning and environmental consultancy the Ethical Partnership to create innovative and sustainable proposals that can be adapted to all existing homes and in so doing improve energy efficiency, generate energy and create light, airy and flexible living spaces.

Napper Architects are delighted to announce the appointments of Alan Love, Charles Roe, Will Mawson and Daniel Kerr as Associates within the company. Formerly senior architects, they have all played significant roles in delivering recent major projects  with Napper Architects.

Teesside University Building, Darlington Campus

Darlington Council has just granted planning permission for the Teesside University Building in Darlington. This is a Napper designed building covering 3,700m² of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching facilities spread over five storeys.

 

BSF, Stockton

Napper have been shortlisted for a £180m Building Schools for the Future scheme in Stockton as part of the design team lead by Shepherd construction. Bishopsgarth School and Ian Ramsey Church of England School will be the first secondary schools in the borough to benefit from BSF investment.

Hand Drawn  - Napper Event 2010

Napper Architects recently hosted their 2010 event, ‘Hand Drawn’, attended by over 100 guests. The studio became an art gallery for the evening, celebrating the beauty of hand drawing, recognising the unique and individual styles of the Napper staff that shape and inform  the various stages of the design process.

 

John Fairbairn of GB Building Solutions, won a case of champagne on the night by correctly identifying the ‘mystery sketch’ as Pilgrim Street Fire Station in Newcastle.

 

The exhibition will run for the next few months.

 

Napper Architects Gain Outline Planning Approval For Historic Site

A contemporary residential development designed by Napper Architects, on behalf of The Co-operative Group, on the site of a former Shirt Factory, has  recently obtained Outline Planning Approval.

The development of the prominent vacant site inPelaw will reinstate the streetscape along Shields Road with up to thirty-six town houses providing high quality family housing of an urban scale, appropriate density and contemporary design. The unanimous approval followed a period of extensive consultation with the local community.

 

 

Morpeth Town Hall

Nappers are pleased to have completed the remodelling of the historic Morpeth Town Hall at a cost of £550,000.

The project reinstated the historic Butter Market as a new multi-use space, refurbished the Ballroom, Council Chamber and Mayor’s Parlour, and incorporated a new kitchen, lift and services throughout.

Express LIFT Investments Limited (“ELIL”) has been selected to deliver a multi-million pound programme of health projects across Cumbria in what is a UK first. Napper Architects are delighted to be part of the highly talented ELIL supply chain consultant team.

 

NHS Cumbria has appointed ELIL to form aLocal Improvement Finance Trust (“LIFT”) company to finance and redevelop the county’s ageing community hospitals and deliver a range of other health facilities.

The Consortium will assist in delivering aninitial pipeline of projects worth around £85 million over the first six years of the 20-year partnership.

 

Cumbria is the first area in England to comeforward under the Government’s national ‘Express LIFT’ procurement framework. ELIL is one of just seven private sector partners chosen from a shortlist of 14 bidders by the Department of Health to work under the new framework.

Napper Architects Awarded Conservation Accreditation

Napper Architects are pleased to announce that John Curtis, Architectural Director, has been accredited as a Conservation Architect by the AABC (Register of Architects Accredited in Building Conservation).

Over thepast decade, John has worked on numerous listed churches for the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle, and has recently completed the remodeling and renovation of the Grade I listed Theatre Royal, and the Merchant Adventurers Court in The Guildhall, both in Newcastle upon Tyne. He is currently working on the complete renovation and remodeling of the Grade II listed estate buildings, temple and loggia associated with the £7 million HLF Stewart Park project in Middlesbrough.

 

Napper Design First Class Residence for University Students

Students in Newcastle will soon be able to enjoy the benefits of a riverside apartment following full Planning Approval for a new 133-bed student residence on Newcastle’s Quayside.

Designed by Napper on behalf of Blythe House Developments, the new 9 storey building features glass balconies offering unrivalled views of the River Tyne and its famous bridges.  It is another contribution to Napper’s architectural legacy on the Quayside, having recently completed both the neighbouring 16 storey Forth Banks Tower and the extensive renovation of the historic Bonded Warehouse on adjacent sites.
