Built-un-built - Napper Party 2009

Napper Architects recently hosted the “Built-unbuilt” event,
attended by over 100 guests. The design studio became an art gallery for
the evening as abstract representations on large canvases formed an exhibition
of completed and live architectural projects. Guests were invited to
identify the ‘Built’ projects to win the chance for dinner for two at the
prestigious Seaham Hall.

CDMC Commission

Napper have been appointed to
carry out the CDMC role for the £25 million PFI project for the new fire
stations and Headquarters for the North East Fire and Rescue Authority.
This project is the latest to
add to our growing list of large scale CDMC commissions which
includes the City of Sunderland’s £100m BSF / Academies programme.

Darlington Campus Building, Teesside University

Napper have begun work on a new campus building for Teesside University in Darlington. Located opposite Darlington college and the Napper masterplanned Central Park the building will cover 3700 sq m and include flexible teaching spaces/ ICT learning, corporate learning, café, staff and admin facilities. Due for completion in 2011 the project is currently at planning RIBA stage C

Sunbeams Music Centre, Redhills Cumbria

Napper Architects are pleased to announce planning
approval has been granted to a purpose built music therapy centre for the
charity Sunbeams. The design is a modern take on the surrounding Lake District
vernacular which was welcomed by local planners due to its contextual response
and the use of materials. The Charity is now raising funds for the project which
has been helped in part through the donation of Eleanor Rigby’s birth
certificate by Paul McCartney which was auctioned last year.

Company Restructure

Napper Architects are delighted to announce the promotion of
Alan Rees, Dean Thody, Mark Bowman and Tim Rainford as Operational Directors
within the company.
Formerly Associates, they have all played significant roles
in delivering recent major projects with Napper Architects. The new role involves the management and
business development of the company in addition to architectural delivery of
projects.

natural evolution of the practice and also ensures we have in place the

Coop, Hexham

A major new retail
development in the historic town of Hexham has recently been granted full
Planning Approval. The contemporary proposal, designed by Napper Architects
will provide approximately 3500 sqm of new retail floorspace. The project
was submitted for Planning Approval on behalf of the Co-operative Group
following an extensive pre-application consultation which generated the strong
support of the local people. To assist the consultation and approval process,
Napper constructed a 3-d interactive computer model of the building allowing
Planners and local residents to view the development from any chosen location.

The Hebburn town centre redevelopment project has now
entered its initial public consultation stage. Following successful
consultation events in August this year the development team have set up a new

Nappers are delighted to
announce that Mowbray Apartments in Sunderland has gained regional and national
recognition at recent awards. The mixed housing and leisure scheme was winner
of the Residential Development of the Year award at the Journal Landmark awards
and gained an award from “Building for Life”, the national standard for well designed homes and neighbourhoods backed by CABE and the Home Builders Federation.

River Quarter II, Sunderland

completed River Quarter in Sunderland has been recognised for its architectural
merit. The mixed use city centre development, including 53 apartments
and two floors of leisure use, won the Building Excellence Award for Best
Housing Project (Large Development) at the recent LABC awards.

Napper Architects Office Trip

To celebrate the completion
of the River Quarter in Sunderland Napper Architects organised an office trip
around the building that houses 53 apartments and 2 floors of 10pin bowling.
The visit culminated in the staff donning their bowling shoes and taking to the
lanes of the bowling alley to re-live their youth in an effort to recreate the
antics seen in the film Kingpin.
